Before they went, he said to them, ‘Many people are ready to believe God's message. They are like crops in a field at harvest time. But there are very few workers to bring in the crops. So pray to God to send out workers. The field and the plants belong to him.’[a]

Jesus then said, ‘I am sending you out, so go! But listen! You will be like young sheep among wild animals. Do not carry a purse or a bag. Do not take extra shoes. When you meet other people on the road, do not stop to say “hello”.[b]

  1. 10:2 Jesus is using a word picture to tell those that he was sending out about their job. Many people in the towns and villages are like the ripe seeds. They are ready to hear about how God rules. When they hear, they will believe in him. Then they will want him to rule their lives. There are not many people ready to go out and tell the good news about Jesus. We should ask God to send more people.
  2. 10:4 Jesus is telling them that their journey would be dangerous. God will give them everything that they need. They must believe that. And they must hurry.
